Description:
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a new imaging modality that is rapidly gaining acceptance in the dental community. As with any new technology, there are misconceptions about the utility of CBCT. The purpose of this lecture is to describe the operation, indications and limitations of CBCT. Evaluation of available products will also be discussed.

As with any new technology, there are misconceptions about the utility of CBCT. The purpose of this lecture is to describe the operation, indications and limitations of CBCT. Evaluation of available products will also be discussed.
Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- describe the common components and operation of CBCT.
- discuss the indications for the use of CBCT.
- review basic image processing and third party software.
- review the three-dimensional normal anatomy of the neck and jaws.
- evaluate case studies that illustrate the uses of CBCT.
- use a systematic approach to evaluate available CBCT units.

About the speaker: Dental degree, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry; master’s degree in dental diagnostic sciences, Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD); diplomate, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and American Board of Oral Medicine; director of dental radiology and professor of dental diagnostic sciences, IUSD.
