Description:

At least 75% of healthcare costs in the U.S. are spent on treating diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer and obesity. Many of these diseases are largely preventable and even reversible by simple lifestyle choices — what you eat, how you respond to stress, whether or not you smoke cigarettes, how much exercise you get, the quality of your relationships and social support — and at times these lifestyle choices can be seen as powerful as drugs and surgery! When it comes to aging gracefully, you want it all! You want to feel good, look good and, most of all, live a long, healthy life. This high-energy lecture based on the most current scientific information will examine the physical, emotional and social issues involved with staying healthy while achieving fulfillment and success in your professional life. Some topics to be discussed include stress and depression, perimenopause and menopause, heart disease, common cancers, Alzheimer’s disease, and more.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • understand the risk factors, preventive strategies and therapeutic modalities for heart disease, common cancers, Alzheimer’s disease and more.
  • discuss the impact of sex, stress reduction, sleep and strong social networks in maintaining a healthy life.
  • provide care to females with better understanding of the physical, emotional and social issues impacting them.
