Description:

Long gone are the days of “Let them fall out … they’re just baby teeth!” Current theories, new attitudes, improved materials and evidence-based procedures now encourage dental clinicians to re-examine how to best treat young patients with bioactive and interim restorative materials, stainless steel and composite crowns and immediate space maintenance for early childhood caries. This lecture will discuss the various materials and proper diagnosis for restorations, posterior/anterior crowns and immediate space maintenance. New bioactive materials, silver diamine fluoride, restorative crowns for both posterior and anterior teeth and immediate space maintenance for primary tooth loss will be discussed.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • understand new theories, attitudes and materials of pediatric dentistry.
  • learn the choices of proper treatment for primary teeth using interim restorative and restorative therapy, including crowns.
  • identify how to prepare and place stainless steel and anterior strip crowns.
  • recognize when and how to immediately and properly make space maintainers for primary tooth loss.
