Description:
This workshop will provide a hands-on scaling experience designed to enhance scaling efficacy and proper ergonomics to prevent work-related pain, musculoskeletal injuries and disabilities. Through video clips and hands-on participation using instruments with wider handles, attendees will learn advanced and reinforced scaling techniques in every quadrant on a typodont model attached to a portable simulation unit. During this course, participants will receive a copy of Diane Millar's book, Reinforced Periodontal Instrumentation and Ergonomics for the Dental Care Provider . Attendance is limited to 24.

Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- exhibit an ideal grasp, advanced instrumentation scaling techniques, ideal fulcrum rests and optimal postural ergonomics while working to enhance scaling precision, prevention and protection.
- understand how to protect hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck and back while scaling to prevent injuries that can lead to a career ending disability.
- demonstrate ideal postural strategies around the patient chair for every quadrant while scaling in a seated posture or while standing to prevent prolonged static postures which can lead to career-ending injuries.
