Is your dental team prepared if an intruder entered your practice to cause harm? Many people do not stop to think about safety and security steps that need to be taken if something unexpected occurs and the safety of you, your patients and colleagues are compromised. Mr. May will provide an interactive lecture, with props as well as a walkthrough scenario for a multidisciplinary population of dental professionals. He will define active shooting and discuss common sense strategies in reducing initial risk. Mr. May will explain the development of an incident action plan with staff and first responders. He also will elaborate the after action and incident report protocols. Be sure to attend this lecture to prepare the entire dental team for the unthinkable and take action without hesitation!

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • adopt adaptive response strategies to incidents of mass violence.
  • learn mass trauma management and lifesaving skills in simulated environments.
  • navigate through the incident area, locate casualties and perform triage.
  • implement techniques, tools and strategies to effectively respond to incidents of mass violence involving an active shooter or explosive devices.
  • collaborate with law enforcement, fire rescue and EMS personnel to achieve optimal response.
