Description:

Have your patients ever been mystified by a painful tooth or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)? Could there be origins of pain that do not require handpieces, orthotics, and medications? Dive into the basics of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine! Dentists are uniquely poised to offer this treatment as a first-line approach to treating patients in pain. Concepts explored in the lecture (C56) will be demonstrated in this deep dive course. Attendees will be paired together to practice these time-tested and research driven techniques which can be easily added to the everyday dental practice. Principles and practices to be taught include cranial osteopathy, primary respiratory mechanism, TMJ physical exam and determining between various treatment modalities. The lecture, "All About Dentistry, Osteopathy and TMD" (C56), is a prerequisite for this deep dive course. You must register and pay for both courses for the full-day learning experience. Attendance is limited to 20.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • establish the relationship between dentistry and osteopathy.
  • recognize the anatomical dynamics that are involved in TMD, dental pain and bite discrepancies.
