Cross-clinical conversations between dentists, the dental team and non-dental professionals are essential to the dental practice and patients' lives. As physicians of the oral cavity, dentists are obligated to educate the community, including medical practitioners, about the links between oral and systemic diseases. Through a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and a commitment to making a greater impact, the entire dental team can become a vital part of their patients’ health care and take their rightful place in the medical community. The time has come for dentists to stop selling teeth and start promoting health.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • gain a deeper understanding of the oral and systemic links to disease.
  • appreciate the need to take a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • learn how to engage the medical community in conversations for a greater impact on patient health.
  • recognize strategies for maximizing patient engagement and improving treatment outcomes.
