This course will cover ways to ensure the entire dental team is prepared for an in-office emergency before it happens. Signs, symptoms and care of the 15 most common medical emergencies that might occur in the dental office will be covered. Airway management is one of the most important skills for a dentist and the team to know how to perform. Ways to prevent respiratory issues, recognition of respiratory distress and methods of managing respiratory distress and arrest will be discussed. This course satisfies the current Florida Board of Dentistry's four-hour airway management and medical emergencies continuing education requirement to maintain a sedation permit, effective 3/1/2020. During the licensure biennial renewal period that begins on March 1, 2020 and every licensure biennial renewal period thereafter, all dentists who hold an active sedation permit of any level shall take the following continuing education instead of the continuing education required in subsection (1): A four (4) hour board approved continuing education course in Medical Emergencies that shall include airway management as a component of the course. Attendance is limited to 50.
