Description:
Rehabilitating the edentulous patient with complete dentures can be a daunting task for most. Common reasons for this feeling are the predictability of comfort, aesthetics and/or function is not as easily achieved as it is with fixed restorative cases, and dental school education, unfortunately, has fallen short of teaching sound removable prosthodontic principles. Whether it's conventional complete dentures, immediate dentures or a setup trying for an implant-supported prosthesis, understanding where the teeth need to be aesthetically, functionally and phonetically is paramount for success. Through case examples, attendees will explore key diagnostic and treatment planning considerations so that fabricating complete dentures is more predictable and fun!

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • identify soft-tissue landmarks necessary for denture support, stability and retention.
  • understand the value of the wax rim.
  • determine the appropriate vertical dimension of occlusion.
  • understand denture occulusion.
  • learn communication skills and techniques for success.
