Description:
This workshop will provide an overview of the Florida Dental Practice Act and its regulations specifically related to patient records and documentation by working through case examples. The attention of the entire dental team is paramount to managing the risk of inadequately written or digital entries. This workshop questions the expression, "the devil is in the details" — rather, perhaps it’s what’s left out? Patient scenarios will be introduced, groups will work through chart entries, then present and evaluate according to specific regulations on the patient record. Ethical issues affecting the dental team also will be raised; however, these dilemmas may not be resolved upon completion. Attendance is limited to 32.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • review scopes of practice for dentists, hygienists and assistants.
  • discuss violations of the Florida Dental Practice Act pertaining to dental records.
  • brainstorm required components of dental records, create sample chart entries, then review potential pitfalls as compared to regulations.
