Description:
Marijuana has been used as a recreational drug, and one of its active ingredients has been marketed as a prescribed drug since 1985. Several states have legalized the use of marijuana and patient advocacy groups are promoting the medicinal benefits of marijuana. Research is being conducted to investigate the use of marijuana and a number of the active ingredients for medicinal purposes. This course will review the medical indications for marijuana and its active ingredients. The course also will review the impact of the legalization of marijuana in certain states.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • recognize the currently marketed medicinal products derived from marijuana and identify their use in drug therapy.
  • describe the active ingredients derived from marijuana being investigated for medicinal purposes and the medical indications for those products.
  • identify the states where marijuana use is legal.
  • understand the impact of the legalization of marijuana in the states where its been legalized.
