Description:
Providing minimal or moderate sedation to reduce anxiety can turn dental phobic patients into compliant patients and improve their dental care experience. Based upon current American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons guidelines, Dr. Sims will review the pharmacologic options and provide recommendations for minimal and moderate sedation.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • describe the level, risk and monitoring for minimal and moderate sedation.
  • identify the medications appropriate for use to provide a patient minimal or moderate sedation.
  • recognize the adverse drug effects and drug interactions important to the management of patients receiving minimal or moderate sedation.
