Description:
This course will provide an overview of the legal, safety and moral issues surrounding the common practice of "sharenting." It suggests that a public health model focused on educating families is the best way to balance a parent's right to share with a child's interest in controlling his or her own digital footprint. This noncredit course will explore whether children have a right to privacy in the context of family life, and the implications of parents oversharing on social media.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • define the individual, family and community implications of "sharenting."
  • explore whether children have a right to privacy in the context of family life, and the implications of parents oversharing on social media.
  • recognize how society can make well-informed decisions about social media sharing that support their children’s well-being and their family’s online relationships.
